Holcim Wants to Build a 1M Tonne p.a. Cement Plant in North Otago

The Holcim cement plant at Weston has been presented as both inevitable and good for Oamaru. It is neither. The Waiareka Valley Preservation Society was formed because we believe that the Weston cement plant will irreparably damage the community and local environment. This plant places Oamaru and the Waiareka Valley at risk.

Our aim is to provide more detailed and balanced information than has been provided so far. When one considers the information we have collected so far, it is clear this plant must not go ahead.

Some time in the next three months the Waitaki District Council and Otago Regional Council will call for submissions. Our challenge in that time is to ensure that those living in the area have enough information to make a detailed submission as to how the plant will negatively affect their lives, and why they are opposed to it.
